Years of thesis research, summarized in only three minutes, to a non-expert audience – that’s the 3-Minute Thesis competition!
Each year, students from disciplines across Queen’s compete in the 3MT, showcasing their work in a short presentation, with topics ranging from cancer research to art history to self-driving cars. The first part of the competition are the Heats – they are taking place on March 18, 19 &20 (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) in Mitchell Hall, Event Commons from 12:30 – 1:00 PM. Since these presentations are meant to be accessible for a casual audience, everyone is welcome to attend them and cheer on our participants! Viewers will also be able to vote on their favorite presentation, and the student with the most votes will win the People’s Choice award for that Heat.
Students will be judged by a panel and their presentations will be scored on a number of criteria, including clarity of material and speaking skills. The top three scoring students from each Heat will get a chance at the 3MT Finals, taking place on Wednesday, March 26 in Kinesiology 101, 5:00 PM start. The winner of the Finals will get the chance to represent Queen’s at the Provincial and national level!
