Matariki Three Minute Thesis 2024 - We have a winner!

Queen's is proud to announce that Sara Stickley (PhD student in Biomedical & Molecular Sciences) is the winner of this year's Matariki 3MT.  The title of Sara's presentation was "Trust your gut...microbiota: It may be the key to uncovering childhood asthma risk".  Sara's supervisor is Dr Qingling Duan.

Seven of the Matariki members forwarded their two best doctoral 3MT participants to be a part of this year's event.  Queen's second participant was Sumaiya Karim (Chemical Engineering) whose presentation title was - "Shaping a clearer future with Dynamic Materials

Other Results for 2024 were:

Runner-up – Josie Quin-Conroy (UWA) - “Thinking with both sides of the brain” (Psychological Science);

Runner-up – Linda Wilson (UWA) – “Beyond the birds and the bees: Engaging beekeeper’s knowledge of the environment to improve management of public lands in South-west Western Australia” (Social Sciences, Geography).

People’s Choice – Miriam Schiele (Tübingen) – “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Preposition: English flexibility vs German precision “(Linguistics).

Queen's has participated in the Matariki 3MT since its inception in 2019.  Results so far, which we can now add Sara too are:

2021 - Runner Up - Samantha Twietmeyer (Political Studies) - “Scared of what’s behind you – Negotiating a double minority dilemma”

2022 - Runner Up - Madison Robertson (Health Quality) - "Till Death do us part: Supporting spouses separated in long-term care”

2022 - People's Choice - Navjit Gaurav (Rehabilitation Science) - “What goes inside a Designer’s Mind?”
