Jie Deng

I spent eight years in Department of History at Fudan Univerisity in Shanghai, earning BA in 2004 and MA in 2007. In September 2008, I went to Department of History at Queen's University for my Ph.D studies, under the supervision of Professor Emily Hill. My stay at Queen's was very fruitful and peaceful, ending up with a dissertation on the formation of the Household Registration System in the People's Republic of China in 1950s.

I was appointed as Assistant Professor at my former University and left Canada in June 2012. Being a faculty member at Fudan University which has a close relationship with Queen's, I am involved with the exchange program between the two university, teaching a course on Contemporary Chinese history to undergraduates from DEVS of Queen's.

My research intersts lie in twentith-century China, especially the dramatic changes and transformations in politics and economy. I am currently working on the publication of my thesis.
