Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
Students participating in a Queen’s Undergraduate Internship Program (QUIP) are eligible to be considered for full-time OSAP and/or keep their previous OSAP loans in interest-free status and non-repayment while participating in QUIP.
To apply for OSAP while participating in QUIP, complete an application for the appropriate academic year, selecting QUIP INTERNSHIP as the “program.”
The online CIFS is available on your account via the OSAP website. A paper application is also available on the OSAP website.
You are required to complete the CIFS application for each academic year that you are participating in QUIP. If you are participating in the program during the spring/summer (May–August) you must complete the form for this period in addition to completing the form again for the fall-winter (September–April/August).
Most students will therefore be required to complete two CIFS applications.
Once you have completed the 'Student Information' section of the application (including your signature and the date) please submit the application online via your OSAP account, forward to Financial Aid and Awards by fax to 613-533-6409, or scan and email the application from your Queen's email account.
The CIFS application should be submitted at the beginning of each academic term (i.e. May and September). Please review the Maintaining Interest-Free Status section of the website for further information.
OSAP will not permit confirmation of full-time enrolment for a period longer than 52 weeks. We recommend you submit a CIFS application for each academic year you are participating in QUIP – in May for the 2022 summer term (May-August 2022) and again in September for the 2022-23 fall/winter/summer terms (you will be completing two CIFS applications.) However, if your QUIP placement will only be 52 weeks in length, your full QUIP placement can be confirmed on one CIFS application.
Financial Aid and Awards will forward confirmation of your full-time enrolment electronically to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) and the National Student Loan Service Centre (NSLSC).
You should follow-up with the NSLSC (1-888-815-4514) to confirm that they have updated your account to reflect your current study period end date. This will ensure that your previous OSAP loans remain in interest-free status for the current study period.
It is your responsibility to ensure that the NSLSC has received the necessary CIFS form(s) during your internship period. Financial Aid and Awards is not permitted to process CIFS forms after your internship period has ended.
Please contact Financial Aid and Awards if you have any questions or concerns. If you have previous loans from a province other than Ontario please contact Financial Aid and Awards to request the appropriate Confirmation of Enrolment forms.
