University hosts Royal Society symposium
Again, this year, the Royal Society of Canada (RSC) Eastern Ontario Symposium is being hosted on the Queen’s University campus Friday, September 27 starting at 6:30 pm. Doors open at 5:30 pm.
Organized by Faculty of Arts and Science DAN School of Drama and Music Professor John Burge and Smith Engineering Civil Engineering Professor Amir Fam, the event features four experts speaking on their research.
All four are RSC Fellows or Members of the RSC New College of Scholars, Scientists and Artists.
“This event is always impressive in the way that the speakers summarize their research in terms that are relatable to the general public, while revealing broader connections to society,” Dr. Burge says. “I am also happy to share that local Kingston composer and RSC Fellow, Marjan Mozetich, will be represented by the playing of recordings of some of his music before the show and during the intermission.”
The free event is open to anyone from the Kingston community and beyond, interested in hearing four experts talk about their research. The evening’s speakers include Queen’s University professors: Margaret Moore, Department of Political Studies; Parvin Mousavi, Canada Research Chair in Medical Informatics, School of Computing, Queen’s University; Merlyna Lim, Canada Research Chair in Digital Media and Global Network Society, Carleton University; and Kerry Rowe, Barrington Batchelor Distinquished Professor, Civil Engineering, Queen’s University.
Tickets are free but are assigned seating and can be obtained online in advance at The Isabel Box Office or at the door on the evening of the event.
The event is available for livestream viewing using the event webpage for a week following the event.
