On Wednesday, August 23, 21 teams competed for seed funding for their innovative start-ups at the Dunin-Desphande Queen’s Innovation Centre Summer Pitch Competition. Arts and Science students were among seven of the 21 teams competing.

InField ID and Durabyte, two teams with Arts and Science students, were each awarded $10,000 in seed funding for their initiatives. See their business descriptions below (as written in the Queen’s Gazette):

InField ID
InField ID is using machine learning to develop an app for farmers to easily identify and track invasive species that harm crops in fields.

Durabyte
This team is bringing Queen's research to market by implementing and deploying proprietary flash storage controller technology that will increase the lifespan of flash storage chips for use in big data storage solutions, mitigating the ever-present need for durable data storage.
