Art Conservation student restores pieces for the National Gallery of Canada
Patrick Gauthier was a first year student when he began working to repair and restore Whatif/Twilight by Ron Moppett. The National Gallery of Canada had received the painting - which had been exposed to flooding and was severely damaged - and had hopes of restoring it for display.
Students with a background in the sciences or humanities come from around the world for the Queen's University Master in Art Conservation Program (MAC). In the first week of the two-year program, students begin working with art objects (paintings, artifacts or paper objects) as they learn to properly clean and restore them.
Learn more about the restoration process that Gauthier followed on the National Gallery of Canada Website, and with the video featured on the Gallery's YouTube channel.
