This year will be the 11th year of the Women+ in Physics Canada (WIPC+) Conference. This conference aims to foster inclusivity and diversity within the physics community by providing a platform for gender minorities and their allies to share research, network, and develop professionally. Conference delegates will have the opportunity to build networks, explore career paths, and present research, while also promoting gender equity and taking part in conversations about women in physics, equity, and inclusivity issues. The conference will include:
- Scientific presentations from internationally renowned researchers in physics
- Workshops on inclusion, equity & diversity in physics departments and STEM
- Discussion panels on career choices, equity & inclusion in STEM, and mental health in academia
- Networking activities
- Student talks and poster presentations
The fields of science and technology continue to suffer from a lack of diversity. The goal of this conference is to support and encourage women and gender minorities in the early stages of their career to persist in this field. To achieve this goal, this conference will offer the opportunity for participants to:
- Take part in a professional conference and present their own research
- Participate in collectively raising awareness about obstacles that gender minorities face in physics
- Build a network of contacts on a national scale
- Get informed about opportunities for careers in science and industry
At this conference, research in physics will be broadly categorized into three streams: Discovery, Application, and Vision & Impact.
Discovery
From the fundamental forces shaping our Universe to the tiniest building blocks of matter, the Discovery theme explores cutting-edge research into the foundations of the physical world. We invite abstracts that delve into new models/theories, experimental progress, and emerging insights into the nature of space, time, and matter. Whether your work challenges existing paradigms or refines our understanding of the cosmos, this theme highlights research that pushes the boundaries of physics knowledge. Share your discoveries and contribute to the ongoing exploration of the universe at its most fundamental level.
Application
Physics drives innovation across disciplines, translating fundamental principles into transformative technologies. The Application theme welcomes contributions which showcase how physics can enhance real-world systems and improve daily lives. From biomedical advances to precision instrumentation, energy solutions to quantum applications, this theme highlights the interplay between theory and practice. If your research bridges physics and technology, solving challenges through novel applications, we invite you to contribute and demonstrate the power of physics in shaping the future of applied sciences.
Vision & Impact
Physics does not exist in isolation—it shapes and is shaped by society. The Vision & Impact theme focuses on STEM education, equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), outreach, sustainability, and the other broader impacts that broaden participation and transform the field. We seek abstracts that address innovative teaching methods, community engagement, breakdown of barriers to participation, and strategies for a more inclusive and accessible physics landscape. Whether you are reimagining physics education, designing impactful outreach initiatives, or advocating for systemic change, we invite you to share your work and inspire meaningful progress in how physics is taught, shared, and experienced by diverse communities.
