In early October, Shyra and Rye Barberstock facilitated and moderated two sessions at the Adaptation Futures 2023 conference, an event seeking to mobilize all actors in the global climate change adaptation community, to facilitate knowledge exchange and co-creation among researchers, decisionmakers, practitioners, industry representatives, and communicators.

“Turning knowledge into Action: Workshop on linking adaptation assessment and adaptation implementation through Indigenous projects” on October 3, 2023, provided an opportunity for participants to discuss challenges and best practices for integrating adaptation assessment into adaptation implementation using key Indigenous projects as examples. On October 6, 2023, “Applying Indigenous Knowledge to climate change adaptation action across sectors — Panel Discussion on Best Practices and Lessons Learned” focused on innovative climate change adaptation initiatives by Indigenous communities and organizations in South of 60 Canada, who are working in partnership with the Government of Canada. Each session had packed attendance with 60 to 70 participants from Canada and around the globe.

Shyra and Ryan manage the Indigenous Climate Hub (https://indigenousclimatehub.ca/), an online Indigenous-led knowledge and resource hub for Indigenous Peoples and communities across Canada. The platform launched in late 2019 and focuses on sharing the stories of Indigenous-led climate change adaptation/mitigation projects. Thank you, Rye and Shyra, for your important work.
