The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the Act) does not replace informal channels for sharing information. Before submitting a formal request please contact the faculty, school, or department that has the records that you wish to access, as many records held by Queen's University can be disclosed without making a formal request.
Formal requests must be in writing, must contain sufficient detail to allow a reasonably experienced employee to find the record, and must include a $5.00 application fee made payable to Queen's University. To facilitate the request process we have provided a request form with detailed instructions. Please note, the Act allows Queen's to charge fees for searching for records, and preparing records for disclosure.
Generally your request will be processed within 30 calendar days and a disclosure decision will be sent to you by mail. You will be informed of the disclosure decision and, if applicable, the fee to be paid before access is granted. In some cases, where there is a large number of records to search through or where there are a large number of records responsive to your request, it may be necessary to extend the time limit. If this is the case, you will be notified of the revised response time.
