Former MSc student Jasmin Ma conducted several studies looking at the impact of high-intensity interval activities on attention and classroom behaviour in primary school students. These kid-friendly exercises, referred to as “FUNtervals”, follow story lines composed of 20 seconds of quick enthusiastic movement followed by 10 seconds of rest for 8 intervals.
FUNtervals has reached over 300 schools in countries across the world including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, China, South Africa, India, and the United States. It is in the process of being published in two books on self-regulation and nutrition and physical activity and has been included in trainings across North America (e.g., training administered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and various Public Health departments).
