Summer Undergraduate Research Program

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics anticipates having several undergraduate research assistantship positions available for the summer of 2025.  Some of these positions will be funded through the Queen’s University Undergraduate Student Summer Research Fellowship Program and the NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award Program. These positions are open to eligible undergraduate students in mathematics and statistics, mathematics and engineering and related fields.  If you have a strong academic record and are interested in gaining research experience in the mathematical and/or statistical sciences, we invite you to apply.

Here you can find a list of available research projects offered by our department.

Interested students should forward the following documents to Jennifer Read by January 27, 2025:

•    The departmental application form
•    A copy of your resume
•    Copies of transcripts for any studies not completed at Queen’s; the Department can access your Queen’s record.

Applicants will be considered for the awards for which they are eligible to hold and will be selected in accordance with the objectives and criteria for those awards.  Additionally, all applicants will be judged on the following criteria:
•    Academic record;
•    Research aptitude and/or potential;
•    Fit/qualifications for the selected project.

Successful applicants must be available to work on campus for 16 consecutive weeks, on a full-time basis (35 hrs/wk), between 1 May and 31 August 2025.  Remuneration will be a minimum of $10,192* for the entire work term for full-time assistantships.

The number of positions will depend on the number of qualified applicants and the number of awards and/or amount of funding available. Applicants selected for the NSERC USRA program will be asked to complete the application form for that program.

We anticipate contacting successful applicants by 10 February 2025.
