Instituto de Investigaciones en Matemáticas Aplicadas y en Sistemas (IIMAS),
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM)
My time pursuing a PhD in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Queen's University was an incredibly enriching experience, both on a professional and personal level.
The department boasts a distinguished faculty, experts in a wide array of mathematical fields. This expertise is reflected in the breadth and quality of the courses offered, providing students with a nourishing educational experience. Furthermore, the department hosts regular seminars and colloquiums across various mathematical topics. Personally, I attended the Seminar on Free Probability and Random Matrices but also explored seminars in other areas. Beyond these scheduled events, it was not uncommon for professors to engage in reading groups, fostering intellectual exchange among faculty and students. I fondly remember events organized by the Graduate Math Society, where I connected with fellow graduate students on both mathematical and personal interests. This vibrant academic atmosphere, coupled with Kingston's scenic beauty, not only expanded my knowledge but also created a strong sense of community.
