To celebrate Mexico’s 214th Day of Independence, the Embassy of Mexico in Canada hosted a series of events through the week, culminating in a reception in Ottawa last Friday. Queen’s Professor Carlos Escobedo, PhD, was honoured with the prestigious prize of the Distinguished Mexican Abroad award for his contribution to science in Canada, presented by the Ambassador of Mexico to Canada His Excellency Carlos Manuel Joaquin Gonzalez.
Professor Escobedo is of Mexican origin, having completed his undergraduate studies at the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico and continued with his graduate studies in Canada. He has been working at Queen’s since 2013, contributing to the advancement of microfluidics and nanotech-based sensors. Queen’s Office of the Vice-Provost, Global Engagement has been working closely with colleagues at the Embassy of Mexico to develop a Canada-Mexico Hub. More information to be provided shortly.
