High Commissioners and Ambassadors from nineteen countries across the Asia Pacific with Queen’s

In October 2024 Queen’s University relaunched its twice annual Ambassadors’ Forum, bringing together High Commissioners and Ambassadors from nineteen countries across the Asia Pacific with Queen’s experts to facilitate meaningful dialogue on critical issues impacting both Asia and Canada.

The Ambassadors’ Forum advances Queen’s international government relations and knowledge dissemination goals, positioning Queen’s as a trusted leader on key issues impacting both Canada and Asian countries.

“The Forum provides a unique and neutral venue for diplomats to discuss current affairs and pressing issues with experts from the university and is an important venue for Queen’s contribution to advancing collaboration on SDG 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”, notes Dr. Sandra den Otter, Queen’s Vice-Provost Global Engagement. “We are proud to be developing a relationship of trust with diplomats across Asia through this event.”

Developed by the Office of Vice-Provost, Global Engagement (VPGE), Queen’s University, the Ambassadors’ Forum relaunch was held with a featured luncheon hosted by His Excellency Kallayana Vipattipumiprates, the Thai Ambassador to Canada, at the Thai Official Residence in Ottawa. First launched in 2003 by Professor Hok-Lin Leung, Professor Emeritus in the Queen’s Department of Geography and Planning, the Forum was interrupted by COVID-19 pandemic.

The event brought together Ambassadors, High Commissioners, country representatives from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, India, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan,  Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Dr. Kim Nossal, Emeritus Professor of Political Studies at Queen’s University addressed Ambassadors and High Commissioners on the topic of “The US Election: implications for Canada”.  In a lively Q&A, the diplomats had an engaging discussion with Professor Nossal about the US election and democratic governance.

Keep up to date with the Ambassadors' Forum

In Spring 2025, the diplomats will visit Queen’s University campus for a full day event, including presentations by Queen’s experts and partnership discussions.

The Ambassadors’ Forum plays a key role in Queen’s government relations and partnership development strategies outlined in the Queen’s Global Engagement Strategic Plan. To learn more about the Plan, visit the Global Engagement webpage.
