Partners of the Americas Foundation and the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs at the U.S. State Department, together with Global Affairs Canada and Amazon have launched a request for grant proposals. This grant competition offers up to $25,000 USD to nine grants for a sustainable partnership between higher education institutions (HEIs) in Canada, Mexico, and the United States to create and implement climate-focused, educational exchange and training programs. 

The primary objective of this grant competition is to expand trilateral collaboration among faculty and increase access to innovative, education exchange opportunities for teams of students to gain technical, linguistic, and intercultural skills imperative for workforce development. 

  • This grant competition is open to all HEIs legally registered in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
  • Each proposal must include at least one HEI from each country.
  • There is no limit to the number of grant proposals submitted per university, however, only two would be awarded per institution.
  • Proposals must describe how participating HEIs will use grant resources to support student/faculty exchanges and climate action projects (CAPs).
  • Proposed projects under this option must be related to overall themes of climate action, and be strategic in terms of strengthening the cooperation and capacities of HEIs in Canada, Mexico and the United States to work together to solve climate challenges.

To submit your application for consideration your grant proposal must include the following:
  • Students must receive credit for mobility completed during this program;
  • Proposals must strongly demonstrate how students from diverse social, racial, and non-traditional communities would benefit from this experience;
  • Student mobilities should include both virtual and in-person mobilities; 
  • Programs must demonstrate institutional support and ability to secure additional in-kind and/or other resources;
  • Programs should demonstration effective practices and strategies to student exchanges;
  • Carbon offsets are encouraged but not required.

Proposals must be submitted in English, submitted by the faculty member themselves, and must include:
  1. Proposal Narrative in PDF that includes a cover page (1 page), table of contents (1 page) and a technical narrative (15 pages max.)
  2. Budget (5 pages max.) that includes a summary in Excel format and a narrative in word/PDF format.
  3. Supporting documents in PDF (no page limit) that may include letter(s) of support, resumes/biographies of project team (2 pages max. per person), and additional materials.
