Gender Studies
Bio: I am an international researcher from Türkiye (formerly Turkey). I have PhDs in Communication Sciences and Cultural Studies. Intercultural communication theory and practice, especially as it pertains to marginalized persons’ negotiations of cultural and national belonging, fiction and nonfiction about women’s, children's and now older persons' border crossing, and the junction of migrant justice activism, literature, and creative industries make up my most recent areas of research. An apt description of me would be a hungry reader and emerging writer. Hans Christian Andersen’s "The Emperor's New Clothes'' is to blame for my addiction to well-crafted, socially committed literature. In my spare time, I also translate between Turkish and English.
My role in the Department of Gender Studies: I serve as the first point of contact for current and prospective graduate students. I try to ensure smooth information flow between the department and students, assist with the admissions process, design the department’s newsletter, and other relevant promotional materials. If you are a current or prospective GNDS graduate student and have a question or an update about your studies and projects, please contact me at gndsgrad@queensu.ca. I check this email daily.
