Description:

Financial accounting fraud in capital markets represents a grave threat to companies and the public interest. Whistleblowing can be an important deterrent to fraud. 

However, blowing the whistle is fraught with challenges and obstacles. How can organizations and, in particular, internal auditors design and manage effective whistleblowing mechanisms to increase accountability and trust and uncover misconduct? 

Join us on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 12 p.m. (ET) for a free 60-minute webinar about whistleblowing: the issues involved and how to manage internal systems. 

This webinar is presented by Smith Business Insight and the CPA Ontario Centre for Corporate Reporting and Professionalism. Bertrand Malsch, associate professor of accounting at Smith, will moderate a discussion with a panel of experts: Pamela Forward, president of the Whistleblowing Canada Research Society; Charles Cron, director of inspections at the Canadian Public Accountability Board; and Danny Weill, executive vice-president at ALIAS Solution. 

Participants will learn: 

  • Best practices of successful whistleblowing policies and implementation strategies
  • How external auditors can effectively assess whistleblowing systems
  • How to encourage whistleblowing and enable people to tell the truth
  • What it means to be a whistleblower and the challenges with speaking up
  • What to consider when launching whistleblowing investigations (including cultural and inclusion issues)

Imagined within this multimedia project is an exploration of the many efforts around the world to bring voice to submerged histories. Echo: Memories of the World highlights these important efforts through a unique fusion of music, video, spoken word, soundscape, and other artistic media. With a core team of Indigenous and non-Indigenous creators, this project not only tackles, but engages in the process of establishing and maintaining mutually respectful relationships between artistic genres, timeframes, spaces, histories, and peoples.

Miss Emily’s performances are foot stomping, heart-wrenching adventures in rhythm, blues, jazz, and rock and roll. For over 15 years she has captivated listeners across Canada, the US, and the United Kingdom with her unique combination of passion and talent. In early 2020, Miss Emily won two Maple Blues Awards for new artist and female vocalist of the year, and in 2022, her “LIVE at the Isabel” album was nominated for JUNO Blues Album of the Year. Join Miss Emily as she shares her remarkable artistry and holiday tunes.

Combining poetry and elegance, charismatic young pianist Tony Siqi Yun is the recent first prize winner at the 2019 First China International Music Competition and a Recipient of the Rheingau Music Festival's LOTTO-Förderpreis, 2023. Known as “a true poet of the keyboard” (Pianist Magazine), Tony Siqi Yun will be bringing an intriguing showcase of Bach, Liszt, Beethoven, and Berio, ending the recital with Brahms’ powerful third Sonata.

Description:

Experience the tradition of cante jondo and Spanish classical and flamenco guitar with two of today’s most celebrated and innovative young artists.

Israel Fernández is one of the leading voices of a new generation of flamenco cantaors, drawing from the deep well of flamenco to captivate new audiences with its timeless power. Born into a Roma family in Corral de Almaguer (Toledo), he infuses traditional flamenco singing with his own distinctive style.

Diego del Morao is one of the most internationally recognized flamenco guitarists. Lauded by virtuoso flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, del Morao has a legion of followers who love his personality and passionate sense of rhythm. He has created his own music and style without losing respect for the tradition of his roots.
