Stay healthy

Student Services delivers Student Wellness initiatives to support the personal, academic, and social development of students at Bader College. Services are delivered in conjunction with local partners, as well as through our Peer Health Educator program, and educational programming in the residence building and the Castle.

Our students have access to a weekly on-site doctor's office (Fall/Winter only), and upon arrival, are registered at the local doctor's office – Herstmonceux Integrative Health Centre. The Health Centre provides comprehensive medical care, travel medicine, immunization, and referrals for specialized treatment. As part of the Student Visa application, First Year students will pay the healthcare surcharge for access to the National Health Service (NHS). Upper Year students in the Fall/Winter/Summer semesters have access to the local doctor’s office on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Health Emergencies

The nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department to the Bader Hall is at Eastbourne District Hospital, which is about 20 minutes away by car. You do not need to make an appointment, but you may have to wait several hours as people are seen on a case-by-case basis, with treatment priority based on the urgency of the medical situation. Visit the Eastbourne District Hospital website to learn more about how students can access the A&E and their current COVID-19 security measures. Please note that Covid secure measures remain in place in NHS hospitals and as such, patients and visitors are likely to require a face mask to enter A&E.

Sexual Violence Prevention and Response

We are committed to maintaining a positive learning and living environment in which any form of sexual violence will not be tolerated. The Bader College Policy on Sexual Violence follows the Queen's University policy that aims to address sexual violence, although some slight modifications to the procedures have been necessary to reflect the geographical location of the Castle and the resources and supports associated with it.
