KevinEvery term, the faculty are encouraged to invite a diverse range of visiting speakers to the Castle to provide students with rich learning opportunities. The Castle itself is a huge draw, of course, but the BISC as an academic institution is building a reputation for its integrated and interdisciplinary programs - so we have no shortage of scholars, artists and journalists willing to share their work with our students.

Journalist and broadcaster Kevin Le Gendre recently talked about the dynamic tension between vocal and instrumental in Soul, Funk and Hip-Hop. He contributes to a wide range of publications that include Jazzwise and MusicWeek, and appears as a commentator and critic on radio programmes such as BBC Radio 3's Jazz On 3.

Novelist Dr Lauren Elkin visited the Castle and introduced her new book, Flâneuse: Women Walk the City, which explores what it means to ‘walk the city’ as a woman, and how our sense of urban space can be linked to our gender identity. It was Radio 4’s Book of the Week.
