CMA Foundation

“The COVID-19 pandemic created many new challenges for the healthcare system, including the journey for today’s medical learners who are the next generation of physicians. The CMA Foundation felt an urgency to respond by providing relief, and we are very pleased that the bursaries for medical learners have allowed students and residents to focus on their studies and stay healthy during this critical time,” says CMA Foundation President Allison Seymour.

The CMA Foundation established the COVID-19 Support for Medical Learners Bursary for medical students and residents in April of 2020 after witnessing the significant impact that COVID-19 had on students and residents and the strain it put on those within the healthcare field. It was awarded to those learners who experienced unanticipated financial hardship as a direct result of COVID-19.

This bursary was one of the many gifts that demonstrate Queen’s commitment to advancing our Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, which measure a university’s progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The COVID-19 Support for Medical Learners Bursary aligned with  Queen’s goal to move more towards SDG 3, Good Health and Well-being, by enabling medical learners to conduct work that ensures healthy lives and promotes well-being, while it provided immediate relief for medical students and residents’ unexpected financial needs caused by the pandemic.
