Dr. Andrew Pipe, Arts’71, Meds’74
Arts’71 Reunion Coordinator and Class Giving Chair
The Arts’71 Bursary was established by the class of Arts'71 in celebration of the 25th anniversary of their graduation and is awarded to a full-time student entering their first year of study in the Faculty of Arts and Science, based on financial need.
“All of us in Arts’71 are very much aware of the wonderful – transformational – experiences we enjoyed at Queen’s and wanted to ensure that others were assisted so that they might benefit as we did. In particular, we wanted to ensure that support was provided to those with specific needs.
Speaking personally, I feel I can never adequately repay the ‘debt’ that I owe to Queens’s and welcome the opportunity to be able to support today’s Queen’s students. I know that my classmates have very similar feelings and are grateful to be able to purposefully, and particularly, contribute to the ability of undergraduate students to have an equally fulfilling Queen’s experience. We’re also committed to trying to do more!” - Dr. Andrew Pipe.
The Arts’71 Bursary is an example of initiative contributing to Queen’s performance in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The rankings measure our progress toward the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the impact the university is having in local and global communities. SDG #1 – No Poverty includes research and financial support options to help end poverty. The Arts’71 Bursary removes financial barriers for first-year students so that they can focus on their studies without additional stress.
