For the past three decades, Queen’s First Aid (QFA) has helped people on campus at everything from Homecoming and Orientation Week to semi formals and football games. Now QFA alumni are being asked to answer the call yet again, only this time it is to help celebrate the 30th anniversary of the on-campus club.
QFA is hosting a reunion on April 2 at the Harbour Restaurant in Kingston and QFA social coordinators Olivia Giovannetti, Artsci’17, and Yulia Chan, Artsci’17, are asking alumni of the beloved club to come back to campus to rekindle old friendships and see how the QFA has evolved since they dawned the recognizable red shirt.
“This reunion is an opportunity to give back to all of the alumni that have volunteered countless hours of their time to service the Queen's campus and the Kingston community,” says Olivia. “Queen’s First Aid would be nowhere near where it is today without each and every one of our past members.”
Ronald Goldstein, Artsci’86 – who co-founded the club in 1986 with Dr. James McSherry – will be returning to Kingston for the April 2 reunion.
In the beginning, QFA members purchased their own equipment and only treated minor first aid issues. Today, roughly 45 volunteers provide on-call 24/7 service, carry defibrillators and oxygen, and compete at provincial competitions.
“We undergo 80 hours of training and continuous practice throughout the semester to keep up our skills. Spending so much time together really allows us to bond and form not only professional relationships, but lifelong friendships,” says Yulia.
Organizers are asking people to RSVP by March 7. For more information, email the organizers.
