Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that alumnus Steven MacKinnon, MBA’98, will serve as Chief Government Whip in the House of Commons.
In addition to delivering on key government priorities and continuing the fight against COVID-19, MacKinnon will be part of a diverse team.
“Steven MacKinnon is an experienced parliamentarian who has shown great dedication to deliver on our key commitments to build a better future for all Canadians. He will ensure our team in Parliament remains focused on implementing the priorities of the Government of Canada, and I am confident that Steven will fulfil his new duties with professionalism, integrity, and care. He has my trust and respect, and that of the whole caucus,” said Prime Minister Trudeau.
Previously MacKinnon served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement and Accessibility.
A former Liberal party president, MacKinnon also served as former prime minister Paul Martin's adviser and was a financial consultant before becoming a Gatineau MP in 2015.
MacKinnon graduated from the Smith’s Master of Business Administration program in 1998 after completing his undergrad at the Université de Moncton.
