The 4th Annual Dr. Malcolm Peat Lectureship with Huib Cornielje
Queen’s University is pleased to host internationally renowned expert Huib Cornielje as he discusses the future of community-based rehabilitation (CBR) as part of the 2022 Dr. Malcolm Peat Lectureship.
Community-based rehabilitation seeks to create a world where people with disabilities are included in their communities and experience full human rights and equal opportunities. The School of Rehabilitation Therapy is thrilled to invite you to the 2022 Dr. Malcolm Peat Lectureship featuring Huib Cornielje. Join us as Mr. Cornielje, in his talk, "Can we truly do without Community-based rehabilitation?” examines community-based rehabilitation and shares how this approach can improve outcomes for people with disabilities in their communities.
About the speaker
Huib Cornielje is a Dutch physiotherapist who developed a comprehensive CBR program in the 1980s during his time as rehabilitation manager at a rural hospital in South Africa. As head of the training unit of the Institute of Urban Primary Health Care (IUPHC) in Alexandra township, he initiated an urban CBR program in the 1990s. Since 1999 he has served as director of Enablement Ltd., which focuses on capacity building, research, and innovation in the disability-inclusive development sector. He holds a Masters of Science and was senior lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Leiden.

The 2022 Dr. Malcolm Peat Lectureship is pleased to partner with the Queen’s Lecture Series. The Queen’s Lecture Series showcases several donor-funded lectures from across the university throughout the year and provides alumni and the broader Queen’s community with increased access to some of the university’s top researchers and internationally respected visiting scholars.
The Dr. Malcolm Peat Lectureship was established in memory and recognition of former Queen's School of Rehabilitation Therapy Director and founder of the International Centre for Advancement of Community Based Rehabilitation (ICACBR), Dr. Malcolm Peat.
