Dr. Premji is a Professor and the Sally Smith Chair in Nursing at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Her research program has investigated the complex interplay of numerous social determinants in pregnant people’s everyday lives, as well as psychosocial and environmental factors, including climate change and biological factors as both risk factors and targets of intervention. She is building on this foundation knowledge to reduce the treatment gap in mental health care delivery during pregnancy through testing and evaluating innovative approaches such as the use of data and artificial intelligence (AI). Dr. Premji was awarded over $ 8 million in funding to build her thriving research program. She has 105 peer-reviewed publications and 41 other scholarly outputs (e.g., edited books, book chapters, invited commentaries). She has given a 5 à 7 Research Talk on Better mental health during pregnancy, and her artistic work “Pregnancy & Mental Health” includes three ethnographic films and a short 2-minute video for South Asian families. Dr. Premji is a Fellow of both the Canadian and American Academy of Nursing.
