Join recent graduate Nirosha Balakumar, Artsci’19, and current student leader Meera Mahadeo, Artsci’22, for an interactive discussion that will delve deeper into how they have navigated imposter syndrome as racialized women within white colonial spaces including academic, work, social, and more.

This event will be hosted through the Queen's University Alumni Instagram page as an Instagram Live broadcast. Throughout this session, you will have the opportunity to listen, learn, and connect with your community. 

 



More about Nirosha and Meera

Nirosha Balakumar is known for her work as a spoken word artist and TEDx speaker who highly values the integration of art and advocacy as an approach to decolonizing education. She takes great pride in her mixed cultural identity as a Tamil and Indo-Trinidadian woman. Nirosha graduated from Queen’s University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Global Development Studies, minoring in Gender Studies. As a lifelong learner, Nirosha recently graduated from Cambridge University, having pursued an MPhil in Education, Globalization, and International Development as a McKenzie King Scholar and Marty Memorial Fellow.  She currently holds the position of EDI and Anti-Racism Partner in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University.

Meera Mahadeo is an entrepreneur and fourth-year student in the Political Studies, Global Development, and Certificate of Business program at Queen’s University. She is a first-generation Canadian and a proud woman of Indo-Guyanese descent. Meera is one of the Co-Chairs of Queen’s Female Leadership In Politics (QFLIP), where she oversees the operations portfolios of the team and works towards advocating for the intersectional empowerment of women and their allies in positions of higher leadership. Outside of QFLIP, Meera was the Co-Founder and Director of ISOVID Inc, a medical device start-up aimed at mitigating the effects of infectious disease for first responders during the Covid-19 pandemic.
