Karaoke has the potential for social promiscuity, collective intimacy, shared embarrassment, and the possibility of bringing together friends, lovers, and strangers. For its inaugural event, Wee Bit Off Centre is hosting a karaoke party at Etherington House. Enjoy an evening of amateur performance and public feelings.
This event is free and all are welcome. Agnes is committed to making its spaces and services accessible to all visitors. The main entrance is accessible with a ramp from University Avenue and automatic door openers. Etherington House is accessible from Agnes' Atrium by a ramp with railings. Wheelchair accessible stalls are available in the public washrooms located off the main lobby and entrances have automatic door openers. A wheelchair is available at the reception desk for visitors free of charge. Learn more about accessibility features at the Agnes.
About Wee Bit Off Centre
The 2024 Artists in Residence at Etherington House, Wee Bit Off Centre: Tear Jerkers, are an embryonic art centre and a gathering place for its own imagining. This project brings together interested publics to blue-sky art institutions. Guided by research into art institutions, they collectively shape and rehearse institutional practices, organizational structure and spatial arrangements towards a forward-dreaming, always-disappearing, forever-emerging art centre.
Tear Jerkers is a collaboration between Michelle Bunton and GHY Cheung. Since 2019, their projects have examined art institutional practices through the critical lens of hospitality, as well as the relationship between queer aesthetics and the formation of counter-publics.
Curated by Nasrin Himada, Associate Curator, Academic Outreach and Community Engagement.
