Outstanding Student Leader Award

This award recognizes a current Queen’s student whose volunteerism and leadership has contributed in a positive way to one or more aspects of the Queen’s community in all its diversity and/or the broader Kingston community. This volunteer activity and leadership may include but is not limited to promotion of student and alumni connections. The student’s contribution(s) can be made in the year of nomination or over several years.

In 2022 the Queen's University Alumni Assocation (QUAA) renamed and adjusted the criteria for this award from the previous Outstanding Student Award. The QUAA respectfully acknowledges the past recipients of the Outstanding Student Award and looks forward to celebrating recipients under the new terms.

Daniel is currently a PhD candidate in Queen’s Department of Chemistry and a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholar in Analytical Chemistry. His research proposes micro-solutions in response to mega-challenges, especially using analytical science, to support chemical greenness and sustainability.

Daniel is proud to have founded and served as president of the Queen’s University International Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society (Q-ACS). Through Q-ACS, he instituted 34 awards for individuals ranging from undergraduate students to faculty and staff, including those in disciplines such as the arts, chemistry, and chemical engineering.

Most recently, he spearheaded two initiatives to honor the late Dr. Alfred R. Bader: “Celebrating the Late Dr. Alfred R. Bader: A 100th Birthday Symposium” and two ACS (Inter)National Historic Chemical Landmarks.

Daniel is passionate about student leadership and will be forever indebted to Queen’s for the opportunities that he has been given. He plans to give back to Queen’s for as long as he is able.
