Nanophotonics

Light controlled by nanoscale materials provides a whole new playground to explore new physics with an eye towards applications. Students will have the opportunity to:

  1. create new nanostructured photonics materials and hybrid systems
  2. use modern optical, nano-mechanical, and theoretical tools to understand their properties
  3. apply their findings to solve key technological challenges, including fundamentally secure communication and light-harvesting integrated circuits.

Advanced tools include ultrafast lasers, high-resolution spectral characterization, growth facilities for new materials, single photon detectors (visible and telecom), and an optical coupled scanning probe (with single atom resolution). Site under construction (just like the new labs!)
