Patrick Deane (Committee Chair)
Principal and Vice-Chancellor
Patrick Deane became the 21st Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Queen’s University on July 1, 2019. He is the former President and Vice-Chancellor of McMaster University, a position he held for nine years. Prior to that he served as Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s and also held a number of academic administrative appointments at Western University and the University of Winnipeg. Dr. Deane is a Professor of English Literature, with his principal research focus being the relationship between cultural production and British politics in the first half of the twentieth century. He read English and Law at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, before undertaking graduate studies and receiving both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English Literature from Western University. Dr. Deane was the first recipient of the John Charles Polanyi Prize for Literature in 1988.
Mary Wilson Trider

Mary is President & CEO of Almonte General Hospital and Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital. She is a graduate of the Smith School of Business (B.Comm) and a FCPA, FCA. Mary is active in numerous healthcare industry committees. Previous Board service includes Ontario 211 Services Corporation, United Way of York Region (Past Chair), Booth Centennial Healthcare Linen Services (Past Vice Chair) and the National Ballet Endowment Foundation. Elected by the University Council to the Board of Trustees - current term to 2022. Current term on University Council to 2022.
Owen Crawford-Lem

BAH ’24. Owen Crawford-Lem is a 5th-year Politics and Sociology student whose interests lie at the intersection of sustainability, governance, and advocacy. Owen has held roles within the Arts and Science Undergraduate Society, the Queen’s Sustainability Conference, and the Queen’s Student Alumni Association. He also enjoys being outdoors, solving riddles, and is an avid Gaels fan. Elected in March of 2022 by Queen’s students – current term to 2024.

Anand Castelino

Anand Castelino has over 25 years of work experience and the most recent 13 years of that has been gained in the higher education sector comprising 8+ years at George Brown College, 2+ years at Pearson Online Learning Services, and 2+ years at Queen’s University. He currently serves as Director, Marketing and Communications in Undergraduate Admission and Recruitment. His educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Mysore, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Delhi, and a Post-MBA Graduate Diploma in Advanced Management from the Schulich School of Business, York University.
Samantha Cheung

B.Sc. Eng (Sc.’92), M.Sc.Eng (Queen’s ’95), MBA (Rotman 2000), and ICD.D. (Rotman, 2018). Oakville, Ontario. Former EVP of Investor Relations at Sagicor Financial, with similar roles held at Intact Financial and Genworth Canada. She also held various senior roles at CIBC World Markets. At Queen’s, member of the Orientation Program as FREC leader in '89, Women in Science and Engineering, and helped establish an ethanol pilot plant at Dupuis Hall in Chemical Engineering. Past Chair and Director of the Oakville Symphony Youth Orchestra Board and Director of Oakville Symphony Board. Other past volunteer boards include Women in Capital Markets and the Canadian Institute of Investor Relations. Current term to 2024.
David Court

Bcom '79, MBA '83 (Harvard). Mr Court is a Senior Partner Emeritus, McKinsey & Company having worked in 5 offices globally. He was on McKinsey's global Operating Committee and Board of Directors, and in addition to serving clients was the Firm's Global Director of Technology, Digitization and Communications. David is currently a board member at Canadian Tire Corporation, Brookfield Business Partners, Public Service Pension (PSP) Investment Board, National Geographic Partners, Women's College Hospital and Plan Canada International. He formerly chaired the Smith School of Business Advisory Board and currently chairs the Advisory Board for Georgian Partners, a Venture Capital Firm focused on Artificial Intelligence as well as some of their portfolio companies. Appointed by the Board - current term to 2026.
Colin McLeod
President, Queen's University Alumni Association
Colin was born in Cornwall, ON and graduated from Queen's with a BAH in Political Studies. During his time at Queen's, Colin was Head Manager of the AMS Walkhome Service and President of the Queen's Student Alumni Association (QSAA).
After graduation, Colin moved to Ottawa and completed a Master's of Arts in Public Administration at Carleton University. He also got involved with the Ottawa Alumni Branch and founded the Branch's Young Alumni Committee. The Committee has held several events and has provided an avenue for the many young alumni in the region to connect.
Colin currently works at Global Affairs Canada, where he is Chief of Staff for the Assistant Deputy Minister of Strategic Policy. Colin is happiest when hanging out with his wife, Laura (Artsci’10, MPA ’11) and Portuguese water dog, Alfie.
Jana Raver
Faculty Senator
Jana L. Raver is the E. Marie Shantz Professor of Organizational Behaviour at Smith School of Business, Queen’s University, and is also cross-appointed to the Department of Psychology. She is an authority on interpersonal relations and team dynamics at work, with a specific emphasis upon the ways in which employees build and sustain high-performance teams (e.g., helping, promoting learning) versus undermining each other (e.g., harassment, bullying, relationship conflicts).
Her research is motivated by an interest in social issues, and aims to equip people and organizations with resources to prevent adversity when possible, and to empower them to overcome it when it is inevitable. Her recent work has focused on ways for organizations to overcome adversity, including building resilience, bolstering teamwork, encouraging employees to voice concerns, and building positive environments for learning and prosocial action that enable employees to thrive.
