Inclusive Security and Military Practice

Armed conflicts are breaking out all over the world, but military operations are failing to bring about lasting peace. New conflict-resolution techniques — such as giving women an equal voice in peace talks — could provide better long-term solutions.

Dr. Stéfanie von Hlatky, Canada Research Chair in Gender, Security, and the Armed Forces, aims to demonstrate how greater diversity and inclusion can improve the prospects for peace. She and her research team are examining what impact these new conflict-resolution techniques may have within top international security organizations as they integrate them into their military operations. Ultimately, they hope their research will make a significant and lasting contribution to policy and military practice, thereby securing more peaceful outcomes.
