"Our president was on the board of Elizabeth Cottage and invited to pour tea at the Hadassah Annual Fair when it was held in the LaSalle Hotel; and once a year we met with RMC Women`s Club and Queen`s Alumnae." (Shirley Brooks-Purkis, 2009, member since 1941).
In the past, the Club held at least one open meeting to which invitations are extended to wives of R.M.C. faculty, members of the University Women's Club, Queen's Alumnae and the University Community. Some of the Faculty and Queen's Alumni who have addressed such gatherings are:
- Dr. Duncan Boucher (African Safari)
- Dr. Vibert Douglas (Tour of the Soviet Union)
- Dr. Martin Edwards (Birds of Kingston)
- Professor Fred Euringer (Songs & Poems of Canada)
- Hon. Flora MacDonald (Smoke in the Power Rooms)
- Professor Robin Hood (America Cinema)
- Mrs. Geraldine Tepper (Law Reform)
- Judge A. Thompson (Family Court Decisions)
Elizabeth Cottage
One of our charter members, Miss Louise Fowler, donated Elizabeth Cottage (located on Brock and Clergy Streets) as a home for widowed and single women, with the proviso (since 1956) that the Faculty Women’s Club submit nominees for the Board of Directors. A number of our members are still actively involved and assisted in raising funds for the restoration of Elizabeth Cottage in the recent past.
