Message for Prospective Undergraduates
Dear Prospective Undergraduate Interns,
Are you interested in getting research experience? Are you interested in astronomy? If you answered yes to those questions, I encourage you to speak with me about potential summer internships.
For those new to summer internships, these are paid positions from May - August and they offer students the opportunity to try their hand at cutting edge research, develop programming skills and data mining skills, and test different theories. The projects are often self contained, but could be expanded into thesis projects for undergraduates (e.g., PHYS 590 for Queen's students).
For Queen's students, I encourage you to look into the Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP) for research projects over the summer. For summer 2020, I have two positions available with the SWEP program. Please speak with me if you are interested in any of these projects.
For both Queen's students and non-Queen's students, I encourage you to apply for Undergraduate Summer Research Awards (USRA) run by NSERC. These are academic based awards. The deadline to apply is March, but you will want to start your application earlier. If you are interested in discussing potential projects for an USRA application, please reach out to me.
There may be other opportunities to conduct research over the summer. If neither SWEP nor USRA are available to you, please feel free to chat with me to see if there are other options with me or with one of my colleagues.
Sincerely,
Sarah Sadavoy
