PhD Candidate (2024 expected)
My name is Julianah Adediji, and I am a PhD student in Professor Neal Scott’s research group.
My research focuses on assessing variability in decomposability and soil organic matter (SOM) quality in the high Arctic by investigating the liability and recalcitrance of soil organic carbon under different vegetation, plant types and soils affected by permafrost disturbances. I will be examining this question through different lenses: by investigating soil organic carbon (SOC) mineralisation through series of soil incubation experiments, by examining the different SOC- functional groups via spectroscopy, by assessing litter quality through proximate fraction analyses and by carrying out soil microbial analysis to compare for variability in microbial community structure within the high Arctic landscape. Overall, my research will attempt to examine the effect of landscape controls on SOM quality and rates of SOC mineralisation following permafrost thawing.
