Modified Headship Reappointment Committee, Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine

Ramiro Arellano’s appointment as head of the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine will end on June 30, 2024. In accordance with the Senate document governing the Appointment of Heads of Clinical/Academic Departments that was approved on March 26, 2009, a joint Headship Search Committee is to be established. The role of the committee is to provide advice to the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) and to the board chairs of the participating hospitals on the present state and future prospects of the department, and to make a recommendation on its future leadership.

In applying the process, Queen’s Health Sciences is consulting widely, through correspondence, with members of the department’s faculty and staff, students, residents, members of the teaching hospitals, and other members of the university and health sciences communities, as appropriate.

We invite you to submit your comments on the present state and future prospects of the Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine and the degree of support for Dr. Arellano’s reappointment as head. Submissions may be made via the linked Microsoft Office form

While submissions will be accepted throughout the process, it will be advantageous for the committee to have them by Jan. 15, 2024. Please note that anonymous submissions will not be considered; however, names and identifiable information will be removed from responses prior to being shared with the Modified Reappointment Committee.

Omar Islam’s appointment as head of the Department of Diagnostic Radiology will end on June 30, 2024. In accordance with the Senate document governing the Appointment of Heads of Clinical/Academic Departments that was approved on March 26, 2009, a joint Headship Search Committee is to be established. Abridged Selection Committee for the Head, Department of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences, Queen’s Health Sciences

Lynne-Marie Postovit will be concluding her first term as head of the Department of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences on June 30, 2024. Dr. Postovit is willing to be considered for reappointment.

In accordance with the procedures of Article 41 of the Collective Agreement between Queen’s University Faculty Association and Queen’s University, Queen’s Health Sciences (QHS) is establishing an Abridged Selection Committee, which will be formed to consider the present state and future prospects of the department. The committee will be tasked to conclude if there is a clear departmental consensus in favour of renewal and will provide a recommendation to the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic).

QHS is seeking the input of the Queen’s University community with respect to the composition of the Abridged Selection Committee. Members of the bargaining unit will elect six members. Faculty, staff, and students are also invited to nominate staff and students from the Department of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences, and faculty from cognate disciplines, for membership on the selection committee.

At this time, we are also inviting written comments on the present state and future prospects of the Department of Biomedical & Molecular Sciences and the degree of support for the reappointment of Dr. Postovit as department head.
