The City of Kingston is inviting post-secondary students in Kingston to participate in the 2024 Mayor’s Innovation Challenge. This annual competition calls on individuals or teams of students to develop proposals that present an innovative project that contributes to the quality of life of residents or that leverages emerging technologies to enhance the delivery of municipal services.

The creators of the top submissions, selected by the mayor and senior staff, will be invited to present their proposals at the Mayor’s Innovation Challenge Pitch Competition on Friday, March 8, 2024, to a panel of leaders with expertise in municipal government, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Interested students can join the City of Kingston, the Dunin-Deshpande Queen’s Innovation Centre (DDQIC) and St. Lawrence College at one of two workshops. Attendees will learn more about the challenge and have an opportunity to start shaping their ideas through a facilitated brainstorming session. Food will also be provided.

The first workshop takes place Thursday, Jan. 25, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. on the Queen’s campus in the Event Commons at Mitchell Hall.

The second workshop takes place Tuesday, Jan. 30, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at St. Lawrence College Innovation Hub.
