Queen’s University’s annual campaign for the United Way of Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington raised a record $492,283, surpassing its fundraising goal.
“We are grateful for the continued support, especially from those joining the campaign for the first time,” says James Ligthart, chair of the Queen's United Way Committee. “Amid challenging economic times, the Queen's community set a new record for the university and the Kingston region, raising more than $490,000.”
Community impact
Donations from Queen’s support more than 71,000 people, aiding programs that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including no poverty, zero hunger, gender equality, and quality education.
The overall campaign raised $4.05 million, exceeding its target of $3.95 million.
“The funds raised will make a tangible difference for people in Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington, providing essential resources to many in need,” says Principal and Vice-Chancellor Patrick Deane, who also serves on the United Way KFL&A campaign cabinet. “Beyond financial contributions, Queen’s community members demonstrate a commitment to compassion and to having an impact.”
Making a difference
The United Way KFL&A works with local partners to address critical needs such as food security, mental health and addiction support, and homelessness.
Queen’s staff, faculty, and retirees lead the region’s largest workplace and retiree campaign, contributing more than 10 per cent of the overall goal each year. According to a Deloitte report, the Queen’s community raises more than $1 million annually for local causes, with students contributing thousands of volunteer hours.
The Queen’s University United Way campaign is organized by a volunteer committee with support from campus champions.
