Sunny Kerr
Curator of Contemporary Art / Adjunct Professor
Agnes Etherington Art Centre
Film and Media
I have developed numerous exhibitions, acquisitions, programs and publications in my role as Curator of Contemporary Art at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre. My approach to curating focuses on emergent issues and practices in contemporary art and experimental formats of presentation and participation. I bring my art practice and background to bear on curatorial work. I completed my BFA at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and my MFA at York University in 2006. I completed my PhD in Cultural Studies at Queen’s and have taught visual and media art and curatorial practice-studies at several Canadian universities.
My recent areas of focus include the art of the residency, informal pedagogies, museum collections and forms of hospitality and the elaboration of resistant practices of time. Recent exhibitions include projects by artists such as Brendan Fernandes, Chris Kline, Yam Lau, Tau Lewis, Ciara Phillips, Judy Radul and Ibghy and Lemmens. My recent writing projects have looked at Les Levine's influential services, resistant formalisms, speculative fiction/realism and ungovernable collectivities. Upcoming projects concern science-art dialogues around dark matter physics, comics and contemporary art and practices in immersive cinema.
