How we process emotions impacts how we perceive ourselves and how we express ourselves to others. It also impacts our relationships at work, the decisions we make and how well we manage stress and lead others. 

Being emotionally intelligent is about building self-awareness and using emotions in the most effective way in our day-to-day interactions. 

So how can we lead with emotional intelligence? 

On Thursday, April 20 at 1 p.m. (ET) join Smith Business Insight and Queen’s Executive Education for this free 60-minute webinar. Led by Rumeet Billan, CEO of Women of Influence, participants will explore tools and strategies that foster the development of emotional intelligence at work. 

You will learn to: 

  • Recognize and understand the five composite scales of emotional intelligence
  • Interpret and illustrate how each scale impacts your role and different stakeholders in your industry
  • Examine connections between specific subscales and personal and professional experiences
  • Evaluate current strategies and identify new strategies that can be used for effective interaction with others
  • Develop strategies that can be integrated into the workplace to foster the development of emotional intelligence

This is a hybrid event, in-person or online via Zoom.

Arctic issues have recently risen in priority as the utility of the Arctic expanded globally. As the global perspective on the Arctic is redefined, and Arctic issues are brought to the forefront of global security; the impact of rapid changes in the Arctic region is felt far beyond Arctic nations. Global cooperation is needed to respond to the current challenges regarding governance, conservation, and exploration of the Arctic, and a need for all allied and NATO partners to expand communication and consolidate capabilities to ensure unity of effort.

LTC Wendy Tokach holds a Bachelors of Arts in Humanities-History from the University of Hawaii West Oahu and a Master of Business and Organizational Security Management from Webster University. Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon, the Parachutist Badge, the Basic Instructor Badge, she is also a member of the Military Police Regimental Order of the Marechaussee in Bronze.

Stauffer is one of the signature buildings on Campus and has been operating now for 27 years. The bones of the building remain the same, but we have seen tremendous changes in the services and the way work and study over the past quarter century that our spaces and services are constantly evolving to meet the needs of our users. Join us for a walk-through of Stauffer, learn about how the services we offer that can help you personally or within the scope of your work, and discover some of the amazing spaces we have in this remarkable cornerstone on campus.

The Experience Queen's Initiatives will showcase different places across campus, allowing employees to learn about Queen's University in a new setting. This is a chance to provide employees with a tour and/or educational experience to better connect them to the Queen's Campus. Part of our work in Employee Wellness Services is to create opportunities to staff that highlight the four priority focus areas from the campus wellbeing framework. The Experience Queen's initiative will hopefully be a way to highlight places, while also promoting belonging and social connection.

  • Prepare copies of your resume
  • Dress in business casual attire for any on-camera chats
  • Test your internet connection, microphone and web camera
  • Choose a place to log in that is free from distraction and outside noise, with good lighting, and with a plain backdrop behind you

Join the Queen's Vice-Principal Research Portfolio and fellow faculty from the Queen's research community for day two of our Grant-writing Workshop and Retreat. Taking the lessons of day one and some time away from the office in order to write and consult with Research Projects Advisors about your current and future proposals.

Both early-career and established faculty members stand to benefit from the workshop. 

Day 2 will include:

  • Quiet space to write and focus on your work.
  • Meetings with the Research Projects Advisors to discuss your research proposals. (All meetings will be held at the Donald Gordon Hotel & Conference Centre).
  • Lunch is available for those who dedicate the day to their writing.
