Islamic History Month Kingston: Muslims and Indigenous Peoples: A month for Mutual Sharing and Healing, Honouring and Truth and Reconciliation.

In highlighting Islamic History month, Muslim Societies/Global Perspectives and Islamic Society of Kingston would like to invite you to a dialogue between History and Art on Muslim Spain with artist Asim Hussain (author of The Tyer of Ties) and Professor Adnan Husain (Queen’s University) entitled “I’m Al-Andalus. The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education (CFEE) has partnered with Health Promotion's Financial Literacy Peer Health Educators to offer a virtual workshop designed to help improve the financial education and capability of University students.

Coming out of this workshop you will be able to make more informed decisions about purchases, be able to create a budget that includes savings and can help reduce your financial stress and know how to apply the magic of compound interest to increase your savings. The goal of this workshop is to help you develop a healthy attitude towards money. You will learn how to take control of your money by setting goals and budgeting as well as to emphasize paying yourself first to meet those goals. You will learn about a simple budgeting process and how to distinguish between needs and wants. This module will help you develop a plan for a healthy financial future by making saving an integral part of your life.

Planning your Winter course? Take some time over the Fall break to work on your course plans through Course Design Express. Work at your own pace to engage in short, quick dip activities or take a deeper dive on elements of your course planning – learning outcomes, assessments, and teaching & learning activities, fostering community, and designing your syllabus. The Fall Break Edition includes guided access to onQ modules, as well as opportunity for online synchronous community conversations and one-on-one consultations.

Cyclical Program Review (CPR) Retreat

Cyclical review teams are invited to join this December CPR retreat as a group. The retreat will be participatory and hands-on, enabling groups to make advancements on Section 4 of their self-study: Program Academic Alignments. By the end of the retreat, groups will be able to:

  • Articulate a revised set of program learning outcomes and align them to degree level expectations
  • Describe how the teaching and learning activities align with and demonstrate achievement of the Program-level learning outcomes
  • Describe how the methods of assessment align with and demonstrate achievement of the program learning outcomes

The work resulting from the retreat will be draft and in need of further community input. Participating groups will leave the retreat with clarity on how to garner this input from a range of stakeholders, including faculty instructors, students, staff, and alumni, where appropriate.

The Vice-Principal Research portfolio invites Queen’s researchers to join guests from Canadian Security Intelligence Service  (CSIS); Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada  (ISED); and Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council  (NSERC) for a virtual discussion on Improving the security of Canadian research investments.

The presentation and discussion is open to all researchers at Queen’s but may be of particular interest to faculty members interested in applying to the NSERC Alliance grant program.

The 90-minute session on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 1:00 – 2:30 pm will feature short presentations on Research security in Canada, Safeguarding your Research, and Impact on the current funding landscape, followed by an open forum question and answer period.

Join SNID for a panel discussion about intellectual property rights and global vaccine (in)equity. Our speakers will discuss: how transnational trade law and the World Trade Organization’s TRIPS (Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights) shape the availability, pricing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines; the proposed TRIPS waiver and its potential impact on vaccine equity; and the importance of a decolonial framing of human rights in global health during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

Team members from KidsInclusive - Centre for Child & Youth Development’s School Age Team will highlight how they work as a multidisciplinary team to help support children and youth through several transitional periods.  Through case examples and interviews they will discuss the real life issues that accompany the Transition to School to Entry and the Transition to Adult Services.  They will discuss roles of each team member, how the team collaborates with community agencies and school boards, and the protocols and tools that have been developed at KidsInclusive to help support these transitions.
