The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged people to think creatively about how they can confront and cope with the global crisis. What we often fail to recognize is our ability to evolve and adapt as the landscape of the pandemic continues to change. Join us for a dynamic conversation about resiliency, as we continue to move beyond COVID-19. 

Join the conversation led by CBC podcast host and Buzzfeed culture writer and editor, Elamin Abdelmahmoud, Artsci’11, where he will speak to Queen's researchers and experts in health care, politics, economic recovery, and public opinion and examine topics such as:

  • What are the implications of the fourth wave and Delta variant on our health care systems? 
  • What will economic recovery look like? How can we ensure we are ready for future global health crises? 
  • How has public trust in government changed? 
  • Are we now more resilient as a global society?

Tune in for an opportunity to participate in the Q&A session.

Come join us for our free and accessible event: the 23rd annual Indigenous Knowledge Symposium. The event will take place virtually via Zoom conference from November 5th to 6th 2021. 

Keynote Speakers: Winona LaDuke & Autumn Peltier

Roundtable Discussants: Dr. Kim TallBear, Dr. Karen Lawford, and Tasha Beeds, Ph.D. (c)

The theme of Indigenous Climate Justice brings many important topics together at a conjunctural time. We invite you to this year's symposium to share, learn, teach and mobilize Indigenous traditions, research, knowledge and art towards climate justice. The symposium will be conducted with respect to Indigenous protocols. 

The first part of our events will take place on Friday, November 5th, 2021, starting at 1 PM EST with our Keynote: Winona LaDuke, followed by a roundtable panel at 4 PM EST. with Dr. Kim TallBear, Dr. Karen Lawford, and Tasha Beeds, Ph.D. (c).  The second part of our events will continue on Saturday, November 6th, 2021, starting at 9 AM EST.

October​ Journal Club Information

This month's guest facilitator is Dr. James Chan, a senior healthcare leader from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He has held both clinical and management roles in health systems for over 20 years, and has worked in all health sectors to plan programs, improve operations and redesign services.

James has a BA (Hons - with focus on Industrial/Organizational Psychology) from Simon Fraser University; a Master’s degree in Counselling and Educational Psychology from the University of British Columbia; and a PhD in Health Sciences from UNBC. In addition, he has extensive professional background in business and management, and is a certified LEAN Black-belt. His research interests include: Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Quality Improvement, Operations Research, Mental Health and Addictions, and Knowledge Exchange/Transfer. He has published articles, professional reports, and book chapters in the scientific literature.

Currently, James is the Director of Innovation at the Sault Area Hospital in Ontario, where he is responsible for Health Records, Registration, Medical Affairs, Data Analytics, and Research departments. He also Chairs the Quality Improvement Committee of the Algoma Ontario Health Team and is sessional faculty in the DeGroote School of Business at McMaster University.

The Vice-Principal Research will host a Zoom town hall meeting on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 9:30 am for members of the Queen’s research community.

This forum will allow researchers to ask questions, and importantly, stay connected to the wider research community.

While there will be an opportunity to actively ask questions during the town hall, for efficiency we encourage researchers to send questions and concerns in advance to research@queensu.ca with the subject line Town Hall Question.

Hosts - Office of Indigenous Initiatives and the School of Graduate Studies

This is an annual event focusing on research collaboration with Indigenous communities. Our keynote address for 2021 is by Queen’s Chancellor, the Honorable Murray Sinclair, followed by graduate student presentations and workshop discussions bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous academics, students, community members and invited guests together. 

In 2021, the Indigenous Research Collaboration Day will be hosted online, and this year’s theme is “Weaving sustainable futures for the generations to come: Insights from Indigenous research.” We envision this event as an opportunity to share experiences about integrating the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals with Indigenous Research perspectives.  We will be focusing on three specific Sustainable Development Goals:  Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, and Reduced Inequality.
