Kehoe Lecture in Social Impact: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 3.0 – the shift to corporate activism

Kehoe Lecture in Social Impact: Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) 3.0 – the shift to corporate activism

When:
Thursday, December 8, 2022
5:45 PM – 7:30 PM
Where:
Zoom virtual event
Find on Campus Map
Description:

Historically, corporations have avoided taking sides in politics and hot-button issues, but the public’s expectations are changing. They expect companies to take a stand, and for the brands they buy to reflect their own values – silence is viewed as complicity. Driven by recent social movements, CSR 3.0 isn’t just about cleaning up a company’s image, it’s about having an impact on socially relevant issues.

Join Dr. Jacob Brower as he looks at the evolution of corporate social responsibility, explores the implications of this emerging new phase of CSR, and discusses real-world examples making headlines today.

Dr. Jacob Brower's research interest includes marketing strategy, corporate reputation and brand management, corporate social responsibility and sustainability, brand loyalty and loyalty programs, top management team dynamics, and innovation and design thinking.

This Lecture was made possible by funding from Michael Kehoe, BCom’78 and Lynne Kehoe to advance Thought Leadership in Social Impact.

Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 7:30 PM

The Trio Fibonacci plunges you into the passion of the 19th century with the emblematic composers of Slavic romanticism with the music of Dvorak and Smetana.

Trio Fibonacci made its first appearance on the Canadian music scene in 1998, with the press reporting that “to hear them is to enter into the world of miracles” (Le Devoir, Montreal).

This ensemble is internationally recognized for its brilliant interpretations of the piano trio repertoire, from the works of Haydn through to collaborations with over sixty living composers on four continents. Their concert tours have led them to several European countries, to Argentina, South Africa, Brazil and Japan, to Berlin, San Francisco and New York.

Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 might well be the perfect expression of German Romanticism in a symphony— passionate, filled with fury, and aimed straight at the heart. Conducted by Alexander Shelley with Canadian baritone Joshua Hopkins making his Isabel debut, Songs for Murdered Sisters is an NAC co-commissioned song cycle for baritone solo and orchestra, based on original poetry by Canadian author Margaret Atwood. Music by Jake Heggie, best known for his contemporary operas It’s a Wonderful Life and Dead Man Walking, embraces and builds on the passion of Atwood’s powerful words.

Barbara Assiginaak                                concerto grosso (NACO commission)

This is Evidence, a powerful multi-media Photovoice exhibit focusses on undocumented South Asian male migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India living in Greece. “This will let the people learn how we live our lives here,” —these words from an undocumented Bangladeshi migrant worker sums the impetus behind this exhibit. Themes include xenophobia, Islamophobia, temporary labour migration, securitization of borders, as well as enactments of masculinity and encounters between migrant men and the Greek population. The exhibit includes photographic stills and videos taken by the migrant men to show their lives as undocumented workers, drone films, interactive touchscreens, maps showing migrant trajectories, life-histories, songs sung and games played for leisure, and reconstructed migrant housing.
