Mackenzie King Scholarship Competition for 2016-17

Applications for the Mackenzie King Open and Travelling Scholarships are now available to download at the following website: www.mkingscholarships.ca

DEADLINE TO SGS, QUEEN’S UNIVERSITY:  Monday, February 1, 2016

Applicants must submit their application directly to the School of Graduate Studies and Research at the Canadian university from which they most recently graduated or where they are currently enrolled.  Students may apply for both scholarships with a single application if the eligibility criteria are met for both.

The Mackenzie King Open Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) postgraduate study in any field, in Canada or elsewhere. ONE 2016-2017 Open Scholarship is awarded nationally. Its value is $8,500 but is subject to change.

The Mackenzie King Travelling Scholarship is open to graduates of any Canadian university who engage in (commence or continue) postgraduate study, in the United States or the United Kingdom, of international relations or industrial relations (including the international or industrial relations aspects of law, history, politics and economics).  FOUR 2016-2017 Travelling Scholarships of $10,500 are awarded nationally, but the number and value of scholarships are subject to change.

A candidate may not hold a Mackenzie King Scholarship at the same time as other scholarships without the written approval of the Board of Scholarship Trustees. This approval is usually given provided that the candidate’s total scholarship support, including the Mackenzie King Scholarship, does not exceed a maximum amount defined by the Board. Lately the maximum amount has been the candidate’s expected tuition fees (approx. $6,500) plus C$16,000, but it is subject to change.

Queen’s is permitted to forward 2 Open and 2 Travelling nominations to the national competition.

Application Procedure:
A complete application consists of the following, each of which should be sent directly to the "Mackenzie King Scholarships Competition" c/o the School of Graduate Studies of the student’s home university:
1.   The completed and signed application form (including attached sheets A and B as described on that form).
2.   Three letters of reference from persons who have an intimate knowledge of the student’s record and ability and are able to give a critical evaluation of the student’s plans for postgraduate study.  At least two of these testimonials must be from persons under whom the student has taken their major work at university, or from senior colleagues with whom they have been associated in academic teaching or research.
3.   Certified copies of official transcripts of marks and other academic records from each university attended.  If a transcript is not available, you may substitute a certified statement by the Registrar or the Faculty concerned.
These items must be received by the School of Graduate Studies of the student’s home university by February 1, 2016.   Please note that applications sent directly to the Board will not be considered.
