Dr. Ali Dizboni has completed his M.Sc. (1997) and Ph.D. (2000) degrees from the Université de Montréal in the fields of Political Science and International Relations where he defended his Ph.D. thesis on Islam and War. He was post-Doc fellow with McGill & Université de Montréal (2000-2002). He is fluent in 4 languages: Persian, Arabic, English and French. He is currently a SSHRC holder (Co-PI) on Religious fundamentalism, Political Ideologies and Radicalization.
He is an Associate professor at the Department of Political Science at the Royal Military College of Canada. He is Associate Researcher & Fellow with CIDP (Queens’ University), ICAMES (McGill University), Chaire Raoul-Dandurand (UQAM) and CEFIR (Centre d'expertise et de formation sur les intégrismes religieux, les idéologies politiques et la radicalisation). His areas of teaching include Middle East politics, International Relations, Security and strategic Studies.
He is currently supervising three Ph.D. students on Counter Terrorism in Middle East, Shia-Sunni Political theologies and Religious extremism. Dr. Dizboni is a frequent commentator for the media on different aspects of Middle East politics and the Canadian Foreign policy in the region.
