Call for Applications

The Centre for International and Defence Policy (CIDP) at Queen’s University invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Fellowship. Preference will be given to candidates with a background and research agenda in political science and/or International Relations, but applicants from other disciplines will also be considered.

Through this call, the CIDP seeks to identify a candidate to support in an application to the Vice-Principal of Research Postdoctoral Fund. Details about the application process are included below. The selected candidate will have a research agenda that gives serious attention to at least one of the following research foci (and will develop a research proposal that integrates at least two):

  • Issues of Asia/Indo-Pacific security (broadly defined) and governance
  • Gendered dimensions of (in)security
  • The role of norms, discourses, and practices in world politics

Proficiency in French and/or expertise in qualitative content analysis will be considered an asset.

The postdoctoral fellow will be based jointly in the Department of Political Studies and the School of Policy Studies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

This fellowship will provide an opportunity to spend time in an intellectually stimulating research environment. While in residence at the Centre, the postdoctoral fellow will be integrated in a dynamic research team, support the coordination of research projects that align with their research plan, actively participate in the Centre’s activities, in addition to pursuing their own research.

There might also be teaching opportunities in the candidate’s discipline, should the successful candidate be interested, which would be compensated separately.

Eligibility: preference will be given to citizens and permanent residents. Candidates must have been awarded a doctorate from a recognized university or expect to have completed all degree requirements by 1 July 2023.

The University invites applications from all qualified individuals, and is committed to employment equity and diversity in the workplace and welcomes applications from women, visible minorities, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity.

Postdoctoral fellows at Queen's University are governed by a collective agreement: the Postdoctoral Fellow Collective Agreement, which governs the overall terms of the appointment.
