Good mental health is a state of well-being in which individuals are able to realize their own abilities, cope with daily stresses of life, work productively, and contribute to their community. It consists of emotional, psychological, and social well-being and affects how we think, feel, and act.
As an educator and Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner, I try to promote self-awareness, healthy habits, and foster a supportive and inclusive environment. It is also important to be able to recognize when students' are in need of support and be able to direct them in accessing services that will assist them in achieving and maintaining good mental health.
In order to be an advocate and champion for mental health, it is essential that we look after our own mental health. We need to be able to recognize when we are in need of help and support.
