Bhavya joined the Association of Indian Graduate Students at Queen's (AIGSQ) as Head of Peer Support in 2021. Since then, she has helped me and others by creating a positive environment to share their challenges and engage in healthy conversations. Working at Queen's University International Centre (QUIC), she has extensive knowledge about Queen's
resources, which she shares with other graduate students.

As an international graduate student, I experienced multiple challenges through cultural shock and academic expectations. Bhavya has organized numerous career workshops and taken the lead in ensuring we come together to celebrate our festivals when we feel homesick. Additionally, she has helped us understand how QUIC provides spaces and resources for theinternational community.

In addition to the initiatives mentioned above, we have been each other's accountability partners for meeting deadlines and maintaining our health. Bhavya ensures that our group takes some time off every weekend to engage in physical activity and discuss our weekly progress. She has also organized potlucks where all graduate students come together to enjoy healthy food and discussions.

To me, mental health is a vital aspect of overall health and well-being. It forms the foundation of our ability to make decisions, build relationships, and function efficiently in our day-to-day life.

As a Teaching Assistant, I regularly checked in with students to understand their challenges and ensured they were aware of the various resources available at the university to support them during difficult times. Additionally, as an international graduate student, I recognized that our challenges might differ in terms of cultural and academic adjustments. I am also a member of a Graduate club where we offer peer support and conduct one-on-one sessions as needed.
