Queen's Art History had significant representation at the 2023 annual Association for Art History conference, held at University College London!
Ph.D. candidate Laura Ryan delivered an extremely well-received paper, "Subverting orientalism and antisemitism? Imperial Russian cultural hybridity in Sonia Delaunay’s Yellow Nude (1908)," in the session, Deconstructing Russian Imperialist Aesthetics: Repression, Resistance, and Representation in the Long Nineteenth Century. Assistant Professor Jen Kennedy co-chaired the session (with Associate Professor Devon Smither, University of Lethbridge), Against the Nation: Rethinking Canadian Art History in the World. Professor Matthew Reeve co-chaired the session (with Professor Bob Mills, UCL), Queer Medievalisms in British Art. Associate Professor Allison Morehead delivered the paper, "Edvard Munch and the 'Great Cause': Abortion, Eugenics, and White Saviourism," in the session, Art and Abortion. Additionally, Dr. Johanna Amos attended the conference while doing research in London.
Important work, good times, and new connections in the Big Smoke! Congratulations, all.
