QWA Endowed Bursaries and Awards

The Association contributes to four bursaries and awards annually.

Providing financial assistance to women pursuing a Queen's degree was a primary focus of the Faculty Women's Club. Until the 1990s, the FWC collected, managed, and donated funds directly. For instance, the Residence Bursary was initiated in 1953 to assist a female student with her residence fees. In 1954, the Club set up a Residence Bursary from the proceeds of a very successful tea. Annually, amounts of $50 - $150 were made available to the Dean of Women, the Registrar, and at times, the Padré, to assist women in meeting their residence fees. In the late 1990s, this responsibility was given to the Student Awards Office and the Ban Righ Centre. The QWA continues to make an annual donation to these funds and encourages members to make individual donations

Bursaries and Awards

Elizabeth Wallace Bursary (FWC President, 1939-43 and 1944-50)

This bursary is named after the original Faculty Women’s Club founding president, wife of former Principal R.C. In 1967, this fund was renamed the Elizabeth Wallace Bursary to recognize the valuable contributions Mrs. Wallace made to the Club.
